Work Week 2024

Work Week 2024 was a great success!

Here are some of the projects worked on:

Renovate the Pantry: New floor to match kitchen, paint and trim.
Strip and wax floors in dining room, kitchen, and pantry
Repair the threshold of one of the showers which was missing tiles and causing water to leak into the dining room
Various spackling and painting projects
Replace the trim around the Mystic Closet and add a spring hinge to make the door self closing so the latch that caused damage to the trim could be removed
Replace damaged ceiling tiles in the dining room
Resurface the parking area with a tractor. The housing corp is looking into the cost to pave the parking area to bring us into compliance with Troy codes.
Remove an old rotten beam that once supported the old front porch. When the porch was replaced, the beam was left in place even though it was not providing any structural support to porch. Since there is no roof, the beam was exposed to the elements and rotted.
Replace some deck boards on the porch
Replace bathroom door
Install commercial door closer on airlock door
Trim hedges
Edge sidewalks

Kitchen Remodel

Completed!

The Housing Corporation, in cooperation with the active chapter, renovated of the kitchen during 2023. Thank you to all who donated! Because of you we have been able to overcome the unexpected costs of replacing the exhaust hood and hiring an electrician. Both were required by the city of Troy for this project.

This was a challenging project from both financial and timeframe standpoints, but we persevered and got it done!

Here are the highlights of the work completed:

Demolition - complete gut down to the studs
Subfloor replacement
New exhaust Hood with makeup air
Reinstallation of fire suppression system including tie in to new exhaust hood circuitry
New electrical subpanel for the kitchen
Rewiring of entire kitchen including several circuits dedicated to individual outlets for powing kitchen appliances/gadgets.
New windows
Insulation
Drywall / taping / painting
Baseboards, window & door trim
New vinyl composition tile flooring
New stainless steel cabinets
New radiator
New resturant style door

The brothers of the chapter worked hard and we were able to keep these tasks pretty much on schedule despite the tight timeframe. There were some late nights followed by early mornings! Morgan Phelix (House Manager) ran a tight ship and without this, we would not have completed our tasks prior to the end of work week. There were several brothers that went above and beyond.

A special thanks goes out to the work week spiritual advisor / drywall taping expert Bill Pav. Bill donated several weekends over the course of the summer of 2023, making the trip from Connecticut several times. He not only worked hard himself, but encouraged others as well - all while having a good time! Thanks Bill!!!
