Kitchen Remodel

Project has begun - but with some snags!

The Housing Corporation, in cooperation with the active chapter, has begun renovation of the kitchen. The kitchen has already been gutted, but we are now in a position where the city is requiring us to upgrade the exhaust hood to meet current codes. We’re asking for donations to help overcome our budget shortfall for this project.

This project was originally planned as part of a larger project to renovate the Cave and the kitchen. The unexpected need for asbestos abatement in the Cave caused us to delay the full kitchen renovation. Rather, we did smaller upgrades that were urgently needed such as replacing the sink (it had a hole in the bottom due to a failed weld) and the stove/range, which was in very bad condition.

The new exhaust hood system requires a make-up air intake and fan. Due to clearance requirements for the system, we will need to replace the current windows over the sink with non-opening windows.

The city is also asking for stamped drawings for the project. We have a $2,500 quote from a professional engineer for the stamped drawings. If anyone is qualified and willing to donate their services, please let me know.

The above requirements put us about $15,000 - $20,000 over our original estimate of $20,000 - $25,000. The budget is now looking closer to $40,000.

We know that many of you have given generously in the past and we have resisted asking you to give more. We would like to raise $20,000 to see this project through.
